Temple Family History

Stow Margaret Temple 1811 - 1899 married Dr William Henry Hugo

The Temple family came from Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland and can be traced back to William Temple in 1600

Stow Margaret Temple, known as Margaret, was the sister of Archbishop Frederick Temple, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1896 until his death in 1902.  Margaret was the daughter of Octavius Temple, who held many senior posts, including Lieutenant Governor of Sierra Leone.  Octavius's father was the renowned Rev. William Johnston Temple, diarist and friend of Boswell; although born and brought up in Berwick, he obtained a living in Devon, where Octavius was born.

Below is the Temple family line from the marriage of Stow Margaret Temple  to Dr. William Henry Hugo back to William Temple at the top of the list.
