Son of Henry Symes, father of Rosina Symes and husband of Sarah Ball
Henry was born in Staple Fitzpaine, Somerset in about 1825
Henry’s marriage to Sarah Ball took place on 9th October 1849 at the Parish Church, Taunton St James, Somerset. His occupation is recorded as Baker and his address and that of Sarah as Taunton St James.
Witnesses to the wedding were a Simeon Bellinger and an Ann Ball, presumed relative of Sarah. Sarah was the daughter of James Ball.
The birth certificate of his daughter Rosina - 20th December 1855, records that Henry was a Master Baker and then lived in George Street, Bristol.
According to the 1861 Census, the family lived in Feather Heatherstow Street, Walsall, Staffordshire. Henry, born in Somerset, was aged 34, a Porter and Sarah, born also in Pitminster, Somerset, was aged 32. The following children were at home:
Harriett Symes aged 9, born in Bristol and a Waistcoat Maker. . Her birthday was on 6th May and she was known as “Arty”. She married a Mr Smith and had a son:

Henry Symes aged 8, born in Bristol in early 1853 and a Courier. Family tradition has it that he went to live in Germany, married and had two sons.
Rosina Symes aged 6 born in Bristol and a National School Primary Teacher
Emma Symes aged 9 months and a Scholar, born in Walsall. She married a Mr Kirby and had five children of whom four were:

Ethel Kirby
Olive Kirby
Bert Kirby
According to the 1871 Census the family was living at 13 Oxford Road, Walsall, Staffordshire. Henry was a Warehouse Clerk, aged 44 and Sarah was aged 42. Children present were:

Rose Symes aged 16
Emma Symes aged 10
Walter Symes aged 7 and a Scholar, born in Walsall. He married and had five children:

Walter Symes who was born on 19th April 1908
Doris Symes
Clara Symes aged 5 and born in Walsall on 3rd April 1866. She married Edwin Thompson (8th June 1863 - 3rd April 1931). Edwin emigrated to the USA in 1890 aboard the SS Majestic from Liverpool and overland by train to Redwood City, California. Clara emigrated in 1891 from Liverpool to San Francisco. - see Other Symes connections for a note on the descendants of Clara and Edwin. Clara died on 6th May 1938.
Flora Symes aged 2 and born in Walsall. on 9th March 1872.. She married a Mr Morrison and they had one daughter:
Hilda Morrison who married Jock Milree. Hilda and Jock lived in Bournemouth during their later years and were very friendly with Muriel Gaskell, nee Owen and other members of the Owen/Turner family. She died c.1960
On the marriage certificate of Rosina - 30th December 1875, Henry’s occupation is recorded as a groom.
