Son of Henry Tomkins Turton & Sarah Ann Ward, father of Alice Irene Turton and husband of Alice Lavinia Healey
Henry was born on 18th August 1881 in 189 Banbury Street, Aston Manor, Birmingham
He appears in the 1891 Census, aged 9, living with his mother, then a widow aged 40, at 2 Hayworth Road, Kings Norton, Birmingham. Also present were Alice May, aged 11; Alfred E, aged 7 and Wilfred E, aged 7. While Henry and Alice were born in Birmingham, Alfred and Wilfred were born in Balsall, Worcestershire. According to the 1901 Census, aged 19, he was living in Balsall Heath and was a silver pencil case maker
Henry married Alice Lavinia Healey
on 13th September 1911 at Handsworth Parish Church, Birminham.
Henry was then living at 7 Wellington Road, Hall Green, Birmingham and
Lavinia at 199 Wellington Road. Henry was aged 30 and a Chauffeur, while
Lavinia did not work and was aged 26. Witnesses at the wedding were a
Charles Nicholls and Alice May Turton, Henry’s older sister. Henry as a young man On the birth certificate of their daughter, Alice Irene, in 1919, Henry’s job is noted as Engineer Tool Setter, Ex Army. After the Great War Henry worked in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham as a Tool Setter |
Henry and Alice had the following children:
Henry Bernard Turton born on 28th June 1912. He married Marjorie Elizabeth Hughes on11th May 1940 at St Christopher’s Church, Springfield, Birmingham. Bernard and his brother, Douglas followed their father’s interest in Motor Cycles and in later years took part in Scrambles in Kings Norton. The two brothers built up a successful garage business in Walford Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Bernard died on 26th December 1982 and Marjorie on 21st April 1984

In her later life, Henry’s mother, Sarah, went to live with Henry and Alice.
