Rev. Thomas Hugo: 9 June 1731 - 11 August 1793             

Born on 9th June 1731 and baptised in Bridford on 13th July 1731.

Thomas was admitted to Balliol College, Oxford and matriculated on 11th May 1749, aged 17. He graduated BA in 1753

Thomas married Mary Sloman on 24th February 1753 in Exeter. Mary was born in Bridford c.1732.

The Rev. Thomas and Mary had the following children all baptised at St Michael's Church, Dunchideock, Devon, where Thomas was Vicar  from 1755.  The benefice was united with Shillingford

John Hugo baptised on 24th January 1754

Margaret Hugo born on 14th December 1754 and baptised on 27th January 1755.  She married William Reed  on 15th July 1776 in Wolborough and Newton Abbott, Devon

Thomas Byrdall Hugo born on 20th May 1757 and baptised on 9th June. Thomas married a Paulina. According to the Army Gazette Promotions of February 1794, he was appointed Deputy Purveyor of the Hospitals and in the Gentleman's Magazine his death is recorded at Ensbury, Dorset on 26th January 1829 aged 73. His wife is recorded as dying at Ensbury on 2nd February 1849 aged 86 and their youngest daughter, Paulina Byrdall Hugo on 31st March 1851 at Exmouth.

Susanna Hugo born on 12th December 1758 and baptised on 8th February 1759

Mary Hugo baptised on 23rd June 1760. She married James Falls on 10th February 1788 in Rattery, Devon

Elizabeth Hugo born on 21st September 1761 and baptised on 22nd September 1761

Walter Hugo born on 21st April 1763 and baptised on 10th June 1763

Mary died on 31st August 1764 and Thomas then married Elizabeth Drake on 28th February 1777 at Wolborough and they had the following children all recorded in Wolborough and Newton Abbott Register:

Stephen Hugo born on 11th July 1777 and baptised on 12th July 1777. He worked as a Surgeon in Crediton, possibly with his first cousin, Thomas and Thomas's son, William Henry.  Pigot's Directory of Crediton 1822/23 records Stephen as a Surgeon and the 1851 census has Stephen aged 72, retired as a Surgeon with his wife Susan, aged 68. His death on 19th May 1851 is recorded in The Gentleman's Magazine; he died at Crediton, aged 73

Elizabeth Hugo born on 23rd March 1779 and baptised on 26th March. She died aged 49 on 11th May 1828 at Heavitree and her death is recorded in The Gentleman's Magazine.

Jennifer Priscilla Amelia Hugo born on 12th January 1781 and baptised on 19th January

Frances Hugo baptised on 29th August 1782. She married Joseph Mignon-May on 23rd September 1803 at St Thomas Church, Exeter

Ann Caroline Hugo baptised on 17th February 1784 and buried, two months later, on 15th April

Charles Hugo born on 14th March 1785 and baptised on 17th March.  According to The Gentleman's Magazine, he died on 8th January 1860, aged 75, "son of the late Rev. Thomas Hugo, Rector of Woolborough, Dunchideock and Shillingford and father of the Rev. Thomas Hugo, incumbent of All Saints, Skinner Street, Finsbury Square, London".

Rev. Thomas Hugo was born in 1820 and entered Worcester College, Oxford in 1838, graduating BA in 1842 and MA in 1850. He was ordained Deacon in 1842 and Priest in 1843, both by Archbishop of Canterbury.  He became Curate of Walton-le-Dale, Lancashire in 1842, then of Childwall, near Liverpool, the of Bury, Lancashire.  He was appointed Priest in Charge of St Paul's, Halliwell, near Bolton-le-Moors and then Senior Curate of St Botolph's, Bishopsgate, London. In 1868, he became Vicar of All Saints Skinner Street, Finsbury Square, London.  He was a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Literature and the Linean.  He wrote many religious books and pamphlets.  Thomas died on 31st December 1876 and was buried at Highgate Cemetery on 6th January 1877

George Hugo baptised on 14th January 1788. He married Ann Ward in Crediton, Devon on 21st April 1818.  They had two daughters both baptised in Crediton;

Elizabeth Georgina Hugo baptised on 25th August 1820 

Dinah Hugo baptised on 23rd October 1822

Susannah Charlotte Hugo baptised on 20th February 1790

Ann Caroline Hugo baptised on 3rd May 1792

In 1785 Thomas subscribed to a review of part of Risdon's Survey of Devon by William Chapple of Exeter

Thomas died on 11th August 1793 and there is a monument in Dunchideock Church: "Rev Thomas Hugo d. 11 Aug 1793 aged 61  Elizabeth his wife d. 24th July 1812 aged 58  Elizabeth their daughter d 11 May 1828 aged 49" In the Gentleman's Magazine for that year, Thomas's death is recorded " much lamented by all who knew him"

Walter Hugo: 15 July 1734 - 1734/35                           

Baptised in Bridford on 27th July 1734.  He was buried on 6th March 1734/35
